The Craft Guild Sale!

November 13, 2011

The Craft Guild has an annual fundraising sale before Christmas. This year was my first sale and the Craft Guilds first sale in the new building. Artists from jewelry, book binding, painting, and pottery all sell their work together. My favorite part is seeing the tables of the potters I go to class with. Working in class I only see part the other artists work and at the sale each table is set up to show off a collection of the best pieces.

For the sale I made wooden shelves to show off my pieces. The smaller shelves worked great but large one was so long that it sank in the middle when any pressure was applied. After some frantic brainstorming I placed bricks and some left over wood which worked out awesome. The bricks even added to the natural colors I was going for.

Thursday night of the opening went great and we had a huge crowd. Several of my family members and friends come up to see the show. The guild hosted a good party with several horderves and a wine bar. The weekend was pretty crazy since I worked the morning shift for the sale then had to go straight to a wedding. Sunday I packed up my work and felt a little disappointed about the sale because my bird stands did not sell as well as I thought, but I finally got my check last week and I did better than I thought. The Craft Guild sale was a wonderful first show and I am looking forward to next year with the experiences I learned from this year.
